The Nintendo Switch has sold more in France than the PS4

The competition between the different consoles is fierce, between Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo, each having its advantages and disadvantages. For many years, the French have fallen in love with Nintendo consoles, and this is proven with the latest published figures. As Philippe Lavoué, general manager of Nintendo France, points out in the columns of Le Figaro, the Switch has sold more than 6.1 million copies in France, thus exceeding the 6 million of the PS4.

The latter also estimates that the 6.3 million Wii sold should be beaten by the spring, and that the seven million mark will be crossed at the end of 2022. Moreover, the year 2021 was one of the best for sales of Nintendo consoles in France, with 1.3 million copies, “ our second best year “, explains Philippe Lavoué. Regarding the distribution, the classic model dominates unsurprisingly with 4.9 million copies sold, against 943,000 for the Lite and 221,000 for the very young Oled.

Nevertheless, the Nintendo Switch is still far from becoming the best-selling console in France, a title that goes to another Nintendo console, the DS, released in 2005 and which enjoyed great popularity in the 2000s, especially among young audiences. The Switch will have to double its sales, since the Nintendo DS has sold 12 million copies. The next exclusive releases, and in particular Pokémon Legends: Arceus, could well help inflate these sales.
