From Apple products to the PlayStation 5, via Meta helmets, many technological objects have been increasing in price for several weeks. The reasons are many: the coronavirus still there, the war in Ukraine and more or less favorable monetary rates. Will the Nintendo Switch escape it? For the moment, the Japanese firm does not envisage any increase, affirms the journalist Takashi Mochizuki in a tweet posted on November 8.

Nintendo imitates Microsoft on the price of consoles
Nintendo is in a wait-and-see position regarding the price of consoles. He sides with Microsoft, which is expected to boost Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X soon (after Christmas, a priori), while Sony had taken the lead with the PlayStation 5. For several months now, the console has been sold for €50 more than when it was released, regardless of the version chosen. Sony is seen as the villain in this story, but its rivals will no doubt eventually follow.
Sony simply anticipated a fall in the price of the yen, a Japanese currency which will only devalue in 2022. Today, a dollar is worth around 145 yen, against 115 last January. This depreciation is also suffered by Nintendo, which must take it into account in its financial statements. It should be noted, however, that the multinational recorded a record first half in terms of net profit, according to Oscar Lemaire, numbers expert. During this period, Switch sales fell (-19%) – partly due to the shortage of components.
This approach of Nintendo pushes to consider an acquisition of a Switch in the short term. The range consists of the Switch Lite (around €200), the normal Switch (around €270) and the Switch OLED (around €310). The Switch is approaching 120 million copies sold, which will soon make it the third most sold console of all time (behind the PlayStation 2 and the DS).
