The Nothing Phone (2) and the new Nothing Ear integrate ChatGPT


ChatGPT takes up residence at Nothing. The brand of Carl Pei, co-founder of OnePlus, has in fact introduced OpenAI generative AI on the Phone (2), giving the very recent Ear and Ear (a) the ability to interact vocally with the chatbot.

Nothing rolled out these new capabilities on April 18, 2024 via the Nothing OS 2.5.5 update. We thus learn via the patch note that this new version of the Android overlay coupled with the latest version of ChatGPT delivers the following functionalities:

  • 💬 Added a new gesture option in Nothing X to start a voice chat with ChatGPT for Nothing Ear and Nothing Ear (a). Soon available for the brand’s other audio products;
  • 🤖 Added new ChatGPT widgets to launch ChatGPT in different modes from the home screen for faster access;
  • 📋 Added a button on the screenshot and clipboard to directly paste content into a new conversation in ChatGPT.

In addition to this privileged access to ChatGPT, Nothing announces the integration of various features on the Phone (2), including:

  • Ultra XDR support;
  • An option to enable/disable HDR mode in the camera for Photo and Portrait modes;
  • A RAM Booster function;
  • An option for ring mode in quick settings “to facilitate sound management” ;
  • A new Save and Battery widget.

Nearly fifteen improvements and bug fixes are also cited by the brand on its official website.

For your information, another smartphone from the brand recently received the Nothing OS 2.5.5 update: the Phone (2a).

However, ChatGPT was not part of the release notes. It is therefore unclear whether the brand plans to deploy its capabilities on its affordable smartphone or on the Nothing Phone (1) in the future.
