A terrible discovery. On Wednesday, July 6, 2022, a severely burned 2-year-old child was discovered in an apartment in Durham, North Carolina. According to a report seen by WRAL News, the toddler had serious injuries to his body and was lying unconscious in the presence of three other unattended children, all under the age of 4. Rushed to Duke Hospital in Durham, the little boy had to undergo surgery. Examinations also revealed traces of cocaine in his body. It is unclear at this time whether or not he will have any sequelae.

After opening an investigation, the police identified the owner of the apartment, a certain Natoyia Barbee. Arrested, the latter claims to have assumed custody of the toddler and his brother during the absence of their mother. However, the boy would have injured himself with fireworks during the national holiday of July 4. For fear of taking him to the hospital, the young woman explains that she tried to treat him with spray disinfectant, but the burns were too serious for such treatment to be sufficient to resolve them. It is not known if the other two children present in the apartment were his.

Suspect charged with abuse and neglect

Already suspected in 2019 of having stabbed a supermarket employee, Natoyia Danielle Barbee has been charged with conspiracy, theft, abuse, threats and child neglect causing serious bodily harm. Incarcerated on July 5, she will be tried in the coming weeks. The mother of the injured boy was contacted by the police.
