Right-wing extremists are getting more popular

They infiltrated demos against Corona measures and are increasingly ready to use violence – President Haldenwang for the Protection of the Constitution warns of an increasing number of right-wing extremists and radicals such as the “Reichsbürgern”. Some of them have weapons.

According to the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the number of right-wing extremists and “Reich citizens” in Germany has increased this year. “The number of right-wing extremists is increasing, including those who are prepared to use violence,” said the President of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Thomas Haldenwang, to the newspapers of the Funke media group. “We are also registering an increase in ‘Reich citizens and self-administrators’,” he added.

The left-wing extremist scene has not grown, but has radicalized. “The number of left-wing extremists has remained constant overall, but those who are oriented towards violence are also increasing here,” Haldenwang told the newspapers. Violence is becoming “more and more important in all areas,” he warned.

Despite a tightening of gun law last year, according to a November report, more than 1,600 extremists nationwide have a gun license. More than 1,500 of them would be classified as right-wing extremists and “Reichsbürger” by the protection of the constitution, reported the “Welt am Sonntag” last month, citing information from the federal states.
