The live action of One Piece long-awaited has finally been made available on netflix. And success already seems to be there!
The American streaming giant had teased this production at an insane cost, estimated at around 18 million dollars per episode. After several enticing trailers, the series finally arrived yesterday in the Netflix catalog.
The end of a long wait
Miracle or shipwreck? So we titled an article last June on the next One Piece Live Action, a project already several years old, in which Eiichiro Oda, the author of the manga, was fully invested. This indication is not to be taken lightly in view of the very (too) many failures of manga adaptation in live action.
The series offered today on Netflix currently includes 8 episodes, which tell us about the adventures of the first Mugiwara on East Blue. It is thus possible to find Usopp, Sanji, Nami, Zoro and obviously Luffy in their first fights against Morgan, Kuro, or the real big boss of this part of the world of One Piece, the terrifying Arlong.
Finally the success
If many had fears on the subject (everyone remembers the terrible Dragon Ball Evolution), the rendering is ultimately not so bad. The fans were not mistaken, with a #OnePieceNetflix which has been prancing around for more than 24 hours now in X.com’s Top Tweets, with more than 177,000 posts on the subject to date.
The production managed to overcome certain pitfalls and realistically render fantastic powers without resorting to overly visual special effects. The best proof is in the power of Luffy’s Gum Gum, with a particularly realistically stretching body.
In the radius of criticism, however, we can note the make-up that is a little too showy for certain characters, such as that of the fish-men, which could tend to take the viewer out of his viewing. However, overall, Netflix has won its bet and produced a series that should delight the public of lovers.
