The series "The One" starts on March 12th on Netflix and combines science fiction with the eternal search for love for life.

"It's a Match" – since the dating app Tinder was launched in 2012, these three little words have promised singles (and also some non-singles) around the world a potential love adventure. The new Netflix series "The One – Find your perfect match", which will be launched on March 12th by the streaming provider, will spin it into a science fiction story. The drama series may be in the future, but the concept is not new.

Fate or love algorithm? It's all about this

"The One – Find Your Perfect Match" takes place in a future in which a DNA test can decide who is great love and who is the perfect partner. What if a simple hair sample could bring together people who are genetically predisposed to fall madly in love with each other? It's a simple idea with immense consequences that can completely change the way you view relationships and love.

Almost a month late

"The One" is based on the 2017 novel of the same name by author John Marrs. However, just under a month ago (February 8), a series in the form of "Soulmates" appeared via Amazon Prime Video with almost the same premise – and a more well-known cast. In the anthology series with six episodes, for example, Bill Skarsgård (30), Malin Åkerman (42) and Charlie Heaton (27) use the latest technology to search for sci-fi partners. "The One", on the other hand, relies on a largely unknown cast and a more coherent narrative style.

Even earlier than "Soulmate", the widely acclaimed "Black Mirror" stole "The One" – as almost always when it comes to future dystopias. In one of his strongest episodes, "Hang the DJ" from 2017, series creator Charlie Brooker (50) took on the topic of dating apps in the usual refined way and in a single episode. If you liked the episode, you should be bothered by a certain boredom in both "The One" and, most recently, "Soulmate". Romantic sci-fi fans can still take a look into the love-hungry future.
