the opening ceremony of the Games will take place from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. on July 26

Much has already been said about the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, scheduled for the Seine on July 26. Although we will have to wait until the last moment to find out more about the spectacle that will be offered, the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee (Cojop) made one element official on Friday March 8: the river parade will begin at 7:30 p.m. , local hour.

The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, had already “spilled the wick” a little by presenting, on Tuesday, the figures used for the spectator gauge: he had announced that between 7:30 p.m. and 11 p.m., 104,000 people would be present with paid places on the lower quays of the Seine, and 220,000 with free access on the high quays.

“The ceremony promises an unprecedented experience, relying on the natural light of the setting sun with all its nuances to illuminate the river stroll of all the best athletes in the world on the Seine, in the heart of the capital”promise the organizers of Paris 2024 in a press release.

According to them, it is a matter of “synchronize the falling of dusk and the story of the ceremony” and to offer “an unforgettable spectacle, both day and night, to all spectators and viewers in harmony with nature and the external environment”.

The river parade of sports delegations will take place over 6 km, from east to west through Paris (from the Pont d’Austerlitz to the Trocadéro), and will give rise to “twelve artistic paintings” Who “will showcase French heritage, Paris, its monuments and bridges that line the route”. I

That day, 45,000 members of the police will be mobilized, including 650 operators from the GIGN, RAID and BRI of the Paris Police Prefecture. These elite units will be supported by ten boats and four helicopters, two of which will carry precision shooters, to ensure coverage of the parade of around a hundred boats. From 7 p.m. to midnight, the airspace will also be closed within a radius of 150 kilometers around Paris.
