the Oppo key is becoming more democratic

The new Reno 8 range is there with a Reno 8 Pro equipped with the famous MariSilicon X chip at the head of the gondola. Quite logically, the Reno 8 and 8 Pro insist a lot on the photo. The Reno 8 Lite, for its part, tries to stand out with other assets such as somewhat old-school notification LEDs.

After a test on the mid-range side with the Reno 7 series, Oppo is setting the course a little higher on the price list with the Oppo Reno 8. Three smartphones will make up this range, the Oppo Reno 8 Pro, the Oppo Reno 8 and the Reno 8 Lite. The brand also announced a tablet, the Oppo Pad.

The Reno 8 Pro: the photo of the Find X5 and X5 Pro for less

If you had to remember one thing about the Oppo Reno 8 Pro, it’s that it brings some of the photo genius for which we know the Chinese brand at a price a little lower than the Find X5 range. The MariSilicon X chip, until now the preserve of Oppo’s ultra high-end, equips this Reno 8 Pro. Thanks to it, the phone should also do very well in video, especially with the addition of 4K Ultra Night video mode.

Also pictured, the phone sits on a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle and a 2-megapixel macro sensor. On the front, the selfie sensor has 32 megapixels, and is notable, optical stabilization. It is an IMX709, namely an Oppo-exclusive RGBW sensor, which should receive 60% no more light compared to a standard RGB sensor.

Now let’s look at the unibody design of the 8 Pro. Its photo block spreads out elegantly with its two rather wide modules, accompanied by the third small circle and the flash. The back is protected by hot forged glass (800°C) with a rather aesthetic frozen effect. At the front, the Oled FHD + panel also spreads over a wide diagonal of 6.7 inches, refreshed at 120 Hz. The screen hides a fingerprint sensor under the so-called supersonic screen, to understand by this that it is faster than average. It is also a rather thin phone, with 7.34 mm thick, but also light for premium, since it weighs 183 g. The only small concession in terms of design, the phone is protected by an IP54 certification. We may expect better at the top of the range.

Under the hood too, Oppo hides surprises. The Oppo Reno 8 Pro is the first phone equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 8100-max, a chip developed in collaboration with Oppo engineers. Remember that this is the brand’s second most powerful SoC.

ColorOS 12.1 of course animates this device and who says Oppo of course says fast charge, here of 80 W. One thing to emphasize, the manufacturer’s warranty amounts to three years, i.e. an additional year than the legal duration.

Oppo Reno 8 and Reno 8 Lite, what are the differences?

The Oppo Reno 8 is a decidedly more contained smartphone, since it displays a 6.43-inch panel, in Oled too, but without HDR 10+ and a refresh of 90 Hz “only”. Thicker (7.67 mm), it also abandons the forged glass for the Oppo Glow coating. It should also be less powerful with a Dimensity 1300 chip, ideal for the upper mid-range. In photos too, expect a beautiful score, even if the MariSillicon X is not part of it.

The Oppo Reno 8 Lite quite logically lowers the airfoil a little more. It is equipped with a Snapdragon 695 5G, a much more modest chip and goes on a refresh rate of 60 Hz. The photo part has a less gifted main sensor of 64 megapixels, then two very accessory 2 megapixel sensors. The selfie camera is a 16 megapixel. Note also that the Reno 8 Lite goes on a 33W load.

If it loses a lot of feathers with its more contained price, the Reno 8 Lite also gains some features such as the presence of a 3.5 mm jack or a dual LED notification system around the photo modules.

We do not yet know the official prices of the Reno 8 Pro, Reno 8 and Reno 8 Lite in France. We can simply already bet on smartphones that will occupy more affordable price segments than the Find X5 family while still remaining on the high end as a whole. The brand will say more on August 31.
