the opposition coalition succeeds in registering a candidate

The main Venezuelan opposition coalition, the United Democratic Platform (PUD), managed to register a candidacy for the July 28 presidential election after protesting over not being able to register the chosen candidate, announced , Tuesday March 26, the National Electoral Council (CNE).

The registered candidate is Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, a former ambassador and political scientist. He thus replaces Corina Yoris, the unknown academic in politics, whom opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, declared ineligible, had chosen as her replacement and who could not be registered, without the CNE giving any explanations.
