The favorite of the polls deprived of election

Ms. Machado, a favorite in the polls, was nominated as the PUD candidate after winning the primaries in October. However, she was stripped of her right to hold public office for fifteen years and on Friday appointed Corina Yoris, an 80-year-old philosopher and university professor, to replace her.

President Maduro, who is seeking a third term, has not yet presented the candidacy of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), although other organizations in his alliance have already done so.
