The osteopath touted his new method of raping his patients

A dangerous repeat offender. Jorge Arias, 51 years old, already convicted of several rapes and sexual assaulthas been sentenced this Tuesday, March 15 to eight years in prison by the Rhône Assize Court for the rape of another victim. The penalty is accompanied by a “partial confusion” of six years with the previous sentence of twelve years’ imprisonment imposed for the other rapes. One five-year socio-judicial follow-up was also ordered by the court, which requested a forensic medical report to assess the victim’s damage.

The latter, a young woman now 27, had filed a complaint in May 2018 for events that took place in the summer of 2014. She decided to come out of silence after reading accounts in the local press. -reports of the first trial of Jorge Arias for similar facts on six of his patients between 2013 and 2015.

The accused admitted the facts

The complainant explained to the investigators that she consulted the practitioner for osteopathy sessions in his office in the 9th arrondissement of Lyon. During these consultations, he encouraged her to follow “a new method” that actually resulted in the sexual acts. The young woman said to herself under psychological influence exercised by the man in a medical context when she was facing personal difficulties.

Defense counsel indicated that the accused had “acknowledged all the facts” before the start of the trial. Originally from Colombia, Jorge Arias arrived in France to become a dancer, before teaching this discipline. He then converted at the age of 30 as a naturopath, claiming to have undergone training in his native country. On April 27, 2018, he had already been sentenced by the Rhône Assize Court to twelve years’ imprisonment for rape and sexual assault on six women, also during therapy sessions.
