The Outlast Trials will land on consoles in early 2024

Red Barrels thus confirms that The Outlast Trials will be ported to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One in early 2024, and that the title will benefit from the crossplay with the PC grind. Alas, the cross progression, it is not yet confirmed. Incidentally, the studio announces that the matchmaking system will be reworked to take this development into account. If, currently, the leader of the group is the only one to decide on the mission to tackle, the objective of Red Barrels is to allow all the players to weigh in the final vote. Details are not yet known. This should help smoothen the games with strangers.

A prank or a boost?

With its good dynamics on PC, The Outlast Trials will be picking up steam again with a big update planned – the world is done right – for Halloween. In bulk, players will receive a fourth card, as well as “new MK Challenges, a Program X refresh, as well as a limited-time Program Halloween event with special rewards. Players can also expect new Amps, Dimmers, Prescriptions, Cosmetics, Cell Items, Sleep Room mini-game and many other quality-of-life upgrades, balances, modifications and enhancements.

As a bonus, the progression systems will also be reevaluated (although it’s unclear When exactly their changes will take place). First, Red Barrels announces that defeats will now be less punishing and will grant more experience depending on our performance in game. Conversely, inactive or overly passive players will now suffer a big slap on the wrist. Finally, the single player experience will be polished, with the return of the system of limited lives which will soon be counterbalanced by objects to be found in game, the resurrection pills. Details of these updates, along with developer feedback, can be found on the official Steam blog.
