The Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival “Triangle of Sadness” by Ruben Stlund


CANNES, Alpes-Maritimes, May 28 (Reuters) – The Palme d’Or at the 75th Cannes Film Festival was awarded on Saturday to Swedish filmmaker Ruben Stlund’s “Triangle of Sadness”, a satirical film about the end of capitalism.

Among the 21 films in competition, the jury chaired by French actor Vincent Lindon rewarded a grating work that takes place on a luxury yacht.

Five years after “The Square”, Ruben stlund therefore won the prestigious Cannes award for the second time for this film whose French title is “Without filter”.

“When we started this film, we had only one goal: to try to make a film which interests the public and makes them think provocatively”, declared the Swedish filmmaker.

The Special Jury Prize went ex-aequo to Frenchwoman Claire Denis for “Stars at Noon” and to Belgian Lukas Dhont for “Close”.

The Jury Prize went to two ex-aequo films: “Eo (hi-han)” by Jerzy Skolimowski and “Le Otto Montagne” by Charlotte Vandermeersch and Felix Van Groeningen.

The Directing Prize was awarded to South Korean Park Chan-Wook, director of the film “Heojil Kyolshim/Decision to leave”.

The 75th anniversary prize went to “Tori and Lokita”, a film about unaccompanied minors written and directed by the Belgian brothers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, who have already won two Palmes d’or.

The Best Actress Prize was awarded to Iranian actress Zar Amir Ebrahimi for “Holy Spider/The Nights of Mashhad” directed by Danish filmmaker of Iranian origin Ali Abbasi.

The Best Actor Award went to South Korean Song Kang Ho for “Broker/The Good Stars” by Kore-Eda Hirokazu.

The Camera d’or, which rewards a first film, was awarded to “War Pony”, by Gina Gammell and Riley Keough.

Among the highlights of this 75th edition are the speech by Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky during the opening ceremony and the presence on the Croisette of American star Tom Cruise, who came to present the new “Top Gun”. (Report Mimosa Spencer and Elizabeth Pineau)
