Of Hispanic and Spanish-speaking origin, the victim was educated in a class for allophone students at the Germillac college. When his death was announced, his mother and stepfather, “his loving dad”, were briefly hospitalized in emergency, deeply shocked. The couple and their family, made up of two younger children (a brother and a sister), had recently settled in this town of 9,000 inhabitants, after leaving Spain. They now want to repatriate Vanesa’s body to Granada, where she was from.

Only one suspect caught the attention of the local gendarmerie. Resident in Marmande (Lot-et-Garonne), Romains C., a 31-year-old temporary worker who admitted in police custody to having kidnapped, kidnapped, raped and killed Vanesa, before abandoning his body in an uninhabited house.
