The Paris Bourse: slight increase pending a publication from the Fed – 08/17/2022 at 09:58

The Paris Stock Exchange was hovering around equilibrium (+0.08%) in the first trade on Wednesday, after five sessions of slight growth and before a publication by the American Central Bank.

The star CAC 40 index rose 5.25 points to 6,597.83 points around 9:40 a.m. On Tuesday, he had taken 0.34%.

There is still a lack of many investors in the trading rooms and the news remains poor for the Parisian market.

Inflation remains the central macroeconomic theme, with prices rising 10.1% in July over one year in the United Kingdom, according to data published on Wednesday.

It is above all the attitude of the American central bank towards inflation that drives investors. They hope that the economic slowdown will push the institution to more moderation in its increases in its key rate, after several spectacular increases in 2022.

At the end of the last meeting of the Fed at the end of July, its president Jerome Powell had “raised the idea that it could be tempted to pivot” and to concentrate on the return of growth rather than on the fight against the rising prices, recalls Michael Hewson, analyst at CMC Markets.

“Equity markets have been rising steadily ever since,” he continues.

But the publication of the minutes of the discussions of this meeting, the “minutes”, scheduled after the Paris close, could upset this certainty, other Fed officials being much less accommodating than Mr. Powell.

Breast cancer: Sanofi abandons amcenestrant

The laboratory fell in the first exchanges (-4.18% to 82.97 euros) after ending the global clinical development program of amcenestrant, designed to fight breast cancer, due to results of trials of phase III, one of the last stages of research, deemed inconclusive.

The stock had already been rocked last week, having fallen 12% in two sessions after a note from UBS seeing no positive momentum in the stock.
