The Paris Stock Exchange ready to continue on its spear

The Paris Bourse is expected to rise at the opening on Monday, continuing its momentum from the end of last week, when positive economic indicators in the United States had revived investors’ appetite for risk.

The futures contract for the star CAC 40 index rose by 0.85% around forty minutes before the opening of the session. On Friday, it had taken off by 2.04% to 6,036.00 points, making it possible to end the week in balance (+0.05%).

On Friday, Wall Street also ended up sharply, up 2.15% for the Dow Jones, driven by several economic publications perceived as positive, such as the recovery of the manufacturing activity index in the New York region or the weak increase in import prices, less than forecast.

This news was a relief but does not take away from the fact that markets are increasingly pricing in the prospect of a sharp slowdown in the global economy, said CMC Markets analyst Michael Hewson.

Several times already, the indices have regained strength over a few sessions this year, which does not prevent the Parisian index from being still more than 15% below its level on January 1st.

Thursday is scheduled for a meeting of the European Central Bank (ECB), which should raise its main interest rates, a first since 2011, in order to contain inflation which is evolving at an unprecedented level in the euro zone.

The ECB could also specify the contests of its new tool, and its relevance, to contain the dispersion of the interest rates on the bond market for the States, which threatens the balance of the euro zone, recalls Mr. Hewson.
