The Paris Stock Exchange rose slightly on Monday morning, at the start of a session which promises to be not very lively due to a public holiday in France and an agenda including only a few speeches from American central bankers.

The flagship CAC 40 index rose by 20.53 points to 8,188.03 points around 9:35 a.m. On Friday, it ended down 0.26% and ended the week with a decline of 0.63%.

In New York, the stock indices ended in disorganized order on Friday, at the end of a session without enthusiasm, after records recorded during the week on the American, French, German and British stock exchanges.

The start of the week is expected to be sluggish in the absence of major economic indicators or events. The main macroeconomic event will be the publication on Wednesday of the minutes of the last meeting of the American Federal Reserve (Fed).

“It is difficult to imagine that it will contain new elements, especially since the meeting” the figures for consumer prices and wholesale prices have been published, underline Deutsche Bank analysts. “Perhaps the busy week of speeches by members of the Fed will prove more interesting,” according to them.

Indeed, on Monday alone, the president of the Federal Reserve (Fed) of Atlanta, Raphael Bostic, the vice president of the Fed in charge of financial regulation, Michael Barr, the governor of the Fed Christopher Waller and the Fed Vice Chairman Philip Jefferson.

In addition to the Fed Minutes, inflation in the United Kingdom and the results of American chip giant Nvidia will be published on Wednesday.

“Remember, last year at this time, the general frenzy around artificial intelligence began around the time of Nvidia’s results, when the stock had climbed more than 20% that day and has now tripled in 12 months”, recall Deutsche Bank analysts.

On Thursday, the May PMI activity indices for several euro zone countries and the United States will be released. Then, on Friday, the final figures for German growth in the first quarter will be discussed.

On the bond market, the interest rate on the ten-year French government bond is still around 3%.

Renault drives with Luca de Meo

Luca de Meo will serve a second four-year term at the head of Renault, the car manufacturer confirmed on Friday, while the manager’s remuneration was contested by more than a quarter of its shareholders.

Furthermore, discussions failed between Renault and Volkswagen for a possible collaboration around an entry-level electric car, a source within the French manufacturer said on Friday.

The car manufacturer’s shares fell 0.32% to 50.04 euros.
