The Pennac(s) are back on France 3: what is the rest of the series with Christian Rauth and Julie-Anne Roth worth?

France 3 is broadcasting the first episodes of season 1 of “Pennac(s)” this Tuesday evening. Is this detective series led by Christian Rauth and his daughter Julie-Anne Roth worth the detour? Our opinion.

A little over a year after the broadcast of their first investigation, which attracted more than 4.6 million viewers, Les Pennac(s) are preparing to make their comeback on television.

France 3 is broadcasting this evening the first two episodes of the first season of the detective series carried by the duo Christian Rauth and Julie-Anne Roth, father and daughter in the city as well as on the screen.

Divorced, mother of two children and recently transferred to Montpellier, police captain Annabelle Pennac (Julie-Anne Roth) was forced in the 90-minute pilot to team up with her father, Hannibal Pennac (Christian Rauth), in order to to solve a 10-year-old investigation, on which he had worked.

The latter took advantage of this unexpected chance to reconcile with his daughter with whom he had lost contact for several years.

Hannibal and Annabelle Pennac lead the investigation

This season 1 of Pennac(s) therefore resumes after the events of the pilot. Hannibal is determined to make up for lost time with his grandchildren and his daughter, who still blames him for many of his problems.

A hidden dyslexic, Annabelle sees her handicap awakened by contact with her father’s bad faith… Because the policewoman has been entrusted with the direction of a research unit in the worst place on Earth: the city where her father was an officer. from police.

However, Hannibal is a reservist and, due to a lack of personnel, he imposes himself on all of his daughter’s investigations. With thirty years of policing, an inventive mind and a tame chicken, Hannibal’s methods are particular, those of Annabelle are no less so, and it is better for criminals not to be in their path.

An original series thanks to its two protagonists

Unlike the pilot, which followed an investigation lasting 90 minutes, season 1 of Pennac(s) is made up of 6 episodes of 52 minutes each based on a different mystery. The Pennac father and daughter will therefore have to combine their forces to solve investigations, each more unusual than the last.

And as in the pilot, it is above all the relationship between Annabelle and Hannibal which will be at the heart of the series. The retired police officer will gradually interfere in his daughter’s life to try to make up for lost time, to the great dismay of the young woman who has struggled to forgive him for his mistakes.

If Les Pennac(s) remains a classic detective fiction in its construction, the series gains in originality thanks to the two protagonists, who share a complex and touching relationship, which makes us want to see more.

The undeniable bond between Julie-Anne Roth and her father Christian Rauth brings a very special dimension to the intrigues, which allows the series to stand out from other programs of the genre. The little touches of humor, as well as the eccentric personalities of the two main characters make it a very pleasant detective series to follow.

Watch season 1 of Les Pennac(s) starting this Tuesday, February 13 from 8:10 p.m. on France 3.
