the Pentagon gives the identity of the soldiers killed

The Pentagon unveiled, Saturday, August 28, the identity of the 13 American soldiers killed in the attack, Thursday, near the Kabul airport in the deadliest attack since 2011 against American troops in Afghanistan.

Most of them were in their twenties and were barely born during the September 11 attacks and the start of the war in Afghanistan. Eleven of them belonged to the Marine Corps, one to the Navy, one to the Army.

  • Lance corporal (Lance Corporals) Rylee McCollum, Jared Schmitz, David Espinoza, Dylan R. Merola and Kareem Nikoui were 20 years old.
  • Corporals Hunter Lopez, Humberto Sanchez and Max Soviak were 22 years old.
  • Sergeant Nicole Geen, Corporal Daegan William-Tyeler Page and Sergeant Ryan Knauss were 23 years old.
  • Sergeant Johanny Rosario was 25 years old.
  • Sergeant Taylor Hoover was 31 years old.

In a video released Thursday on Facebook, the Marine Lieutenant Colonel Stuart Scheller called on military leaders to admit that the withdrawal from Afghanistan was a failure that led to the deaths of these young soldiers. In the process, he was relieved of his duties.

The Pentagon said on Saturday that the US military had started its withdrawal from Kabul airport.
