The perfect addition to the grill: the best Dutch ovens

Dutch ovens are becoming increasingly popular and are an interesting alternative to the grill. Cast iron pots have been known in the USA and Australia since the 18th century – in Germany, however, the Dutch oven has only recently really spread.

The Dutch Oven is a cast-iron vessel on mostly three short legs, which is closed with a tight lid. In addition to the obvious cooking and stewing, the Dutch Oven, also called “DO” for short in professional circles, was and is used for roasting, deep-frying and even baking. The special cooking pot promises campfire romance, because the DO is ideal for preparing food over and in an open fire. Most Dutch ovens have a handle. They can also be conveniently hung over the fire on a swivel grill.

The edge of the lid is raised so that you can heat the food evenly from all sides. This means that embers or ash on top cannot fall into the pot when it is opened. The cast iron also stores the heat for quite a long time and distributes it evenly.

In the following table, we show you Dutch ovens that have received very good ratings for inspiration. Below you will find useful tips for using the special outdoor pots.
