“The Perfect Dinner” host Markus gets emotional when he talks about his deceased sister. His menu is dedicated to the memory of her.

“The perfect dinner” becomes unusually emotional when Markus, 42, acts as host on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. The Schuhplattler and amateur actor, who only became a father again three weeks ago, is preparing a 3-course menu based on the motto “Bayern Meets Asia”. During the preparations, tears come to his eyes when the conversation turns to his deceased sister.

“The Perfect Dinner” candidate close to tears

Like many candidates before him, Markus’ goal is to win “The Perfect Dinner”. The reason for his ambition, however, is a highly emotional one: “It was always a big wish from my sister. She always said: ‘You absolutely have to go there.'” She always said back then that he was a “good one and above all an unusual cook”. “We were a good and inseparable unit, both of us,” Markus remembers.

When asked about the past tense, the conversation falters and Markus’ voice breaks. “Doesn’t she know that you’re participating here?” Asks the VOX spokesman. “No, unfortunately she doesn’t know that. Difficult subject.” Only after a few moments does he find the strength to continue talking. “My sister doesn’t know that I’m taking part. Unfortunately, she doesn’t exist anymore.” He then reveals the reason why he’s so keen to win: “If I win here, it’s for them.”

Markus delivers an almost perfect dinner

There is Tom Kha Gai as a starter and prawn bread as a Bavarian portion. The guests are delighted. “The appetizer was bomb for me,” is Roberts, 37, verdict. And Kathy, 26, quickly names prawn bread her new favorite dish. The main course – Thai hanging tender on glazed carrots and edamame puree – is also convincing across the board: Alina, 27, found the dish to be “very harmonious”, even if she was missing the Asian touch a little.

The glass is raised to the chocolate cake – the deceased sister’s favorite dish at the time. “Markus, I would like to drink to your sister now,” says Judith, 57, touching her host with this gesture. For three out of four guests it was “The Perfect Dinner”: With 39 out of 40 possible points, Markus is almost certain to win.
