The most successful German movie in 2019 will be on TV: "The Perfect Secret" has top stars – and an interesting background.

At the end of October 2019, "The Perfect Secret" conquered German cinema screens, and a year later it is celebrating its TV premiere on Sky. The comedy by "Fack ju Göhte" director Bora Drachtkin (42) lured audiences to the cinema in droves and was voted the most successful German film of the year with over five million cinema-goers. But in addition to the top-class cast, the hit comedy also has an interesting history to offer.

Because the film actually comes from Italy, where it was released in 2016 under the title "Perfetti sconosciuti". After the premiere, an escalating dinner party was invited to the screen in Spain ("Perfectos desconocidos", 2017), Turkey ("Cebimdeki Yabanci", 2018) or South Korea ("Wanbyeokhan tain", 2018). The German version was the eleventh and final adaptation to date, but it was not just intended to be a retelling. Dagtkin came up with a more contemporary interpretation for his script, with new conflicts and revelations.

"The perfect secret": that's what it's all about

In the film, a group of friends starts a deceptive game over dinner: everyone puts their smartphones on the table and everything that comes in is shared. Messages are read out, phone calls are heard loudly. What begins as harmless fun ends in emotional chaos. Because in the circle of friends there are more undiscovered secrets and life lies than expected. For his adaptation of the original Italian film, screenwriter, director and producer Bora Drachtkin gathered big stars from the German cinema world.

The couple Eva and Rocco Koch alias Wotan Wilke Möhring (53) and Jessica Schwarz (43) are the hosts of the heated evening. Frederick Lau (31) plays taxi driver Simon, Jella Haase (28) his girlfriend Bianca, who is smiled at by Simon's friends as the youngest member of the group. Karoline Herfurth (36) and Elyas M'Barek (38) are the stressed twin parents as Carlotta and Leo. Florian David Fitz (46) mimes high school teacher Pepe, who arrives without his allegedly ill girlfriend Anna.

Sky shows Bora DAGENKIN's successful remake on Sky Cinema premieres on December 25, 2020.
