This time, Digital recommend the series Barbarians (season 2), Notre-Dame the part of the fire and The Peripheralas well as movies Fantastic Beasts 3 and The Bear.

Notre-Dame, the part of the fire (Netflix)

The series takes place during the night of the Notre-Dame fire and tells us the fate of men and women who themselves have their own fire to put out. In parallel with the fight led by the Paris fire brigade against the burning of the cathedral, we follow characters who will have to go to the end of themselves. They will fight, love each other, cross paths, hate each other, smile or help each other… in the end, they will have a chance to rebuild themselves.

Created and co-written by Hervé Admar (Pigalle at night, Witnesses), this six-episode mini-series is a dive into the heart of the historic fire of the great Parisian cathedral in 2019, through a choral story that mixes the points of view of firefighters, rescuers, victims and Parisians. If the series uses fairly conventional dramatic tricks, the reconstruction and the images are impressive, and the cast of good quality: Roschdy Zem, Simon Abkarian, Alice Isaaz, Frédéric Chau… From October 19 on Netflix

The Peripheral (Amazon Prime Video)

Stuck in a small town in Appalachia, a young woman kills boredom by playing video games. His talent is spotted by a company that invites him to test a new kind of game, and the surprise will be great. What seems like a game will allow him to achieve his dreams, find love and meaning in his life, but it will also put his life and that of his family in danger.

The Peripheral (Peripherals, The Worlds of Flynn en VF) is a new series of anticipation signed by Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, the creators of Westworld. At the crossroads of Matrix and Ready Player One, the series deals with the blurred border between virtual and reality, but also with the notion of digital identity. A program resolutely oriented for a teenage audience, but which will delight all fans of the genre thanks to its beautiful visual ambition and impressive sequences. Starting October 21 on Amazon Video Prime.

Barbarians season 2 (Netflix)

Set in AD 9, this season chronicles clashes between Roman forces and alliances of Germanic tribes. The first season had followed the Roman Arminius, in full moral tension, torn between the powerful empire which educated him and his tribe of origin. The conflict takes on a new dimension in this season 2.

This German series tells the conquest of the Roman Empire from the point of view of the “barbarians”, that is to say the Germanic provinces fighting against the invader. The occasion of a peplum with a dirty and violent atmosphere, which will recall as much the series vikings than the beginning of the movie Gladiator. A nice surprise for fans of history, family conflicts and bloody wars. From October 21 on Netflix.

The Bear (Disney+)

A bear dies crushed by a rock, leaving an orphan cub in the frozen immensity of the mountains. The furball will have to learn life sooner than expected, clinging to an adult male who didn’t really want that.

Directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud (The name of the rose, Seven years in Tibet) The Bear is a pure poetic and bucolic jewel. What seems to start as a wildlife documentary quickly turns into a story of an unlikely friendship, where words are rare, but emotions overflow. A great classic of French cinema (more than 9 million spectators in 1988) and a timeless value. From October 21 on Disney+.
