Google’s new smartphones are arriving in a few hours, and now it’s time for the latest leaks galore. Indeed, some specialists have already gotten their hands on the devices a few days ago, and they now no longer hesitate to share a ton of details.
The American giant has always focused on photography, and each generation of Pixel has met user expectations. So much so that many people have unwavering loyalty to these smartphones for this very specific reason.
But will the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro measure up this year? Although we will have to wait a few more hours to be sure, we can already admire some photos taken with the devices, and we can say that we are not disappointed.
Only a Pixel can dethrone a Pixel?
PBKreviews strikes again. After having already published the first unboxing video of the Pixel 8, followed by another for the Pixel 8 Pro, today he gives us some examples of photos taken with the devices on X.com. And despite the obvious compression of the images uploaded to the platform, there are already some very interesting things to observe.
In daylight, both phones’ cameras produce very good results. The shots are detailed, the dynamic range is pretty decent, and the colors are “ dazzling », even if it is difficult to judge their completeness in relation to reality. There is no doubt that AI, as advertised, does an appreciable job on Google’s new smartphones. And so far, she’s been pretty convincing.
Two details should however be noted. In the examples given by PBKreviews, the Pixel 8 results seem less detailed than those of the Pixel 8 Pro. However, this could be due to various device-independent factors, such as X.com’s compression or the way the photos were taken.
What is even more surprising are the results of the x5 telephoto lens on the Pro model. While we were told about an optical zoom, we rather have the impression that the device simply cuts out a photo taken at x2. Here, we are well below what the competition is capable of.
The ideal camera for New Year’s photos
When it comes to night photos, we are simply blown away. In urban environments, shots feature little or no noise while preserving plenty of detail. AI must once again do an incredible job, and the Pixel 8 will surely be crowned king (or almost) in this category.
In very low light, Night mode manages to push the limits of the camera a little further and achieve some feats, without giving a completely usable shot. However, the results are impressive, and we can’t wait to test these smartphones up and down.
Things could still improve between now and the presentation of the Pixel 8. The firmware of the PBKreviews devices still needs some last-minute tweaks, and we can also suspect that Google will make some welcome changes. here until they reach the hands of the first users.
