A new listing for Google’s Pixel Buds Pro slated for July 28 gives us new details about the wireless charging speed of the headphones.
Scheduled for release in July, the Pixel Buds Pro were announced at Google I/O 2022 and we were able to discover some of their main features. Google’s new wireless headphones are now starting to go through the usual electronics-only certifications stage. This is among other things what has just happened for the case of the device which has just been certified for the Qi wireless charging standard, revealing to us some additional characteristics in passing.
Same wireless charging speed as Pixel Buds 2
Google didn’t list everything the Pixel Buds Pro were capable of during their presentation and these headphones still hold a certain amount of mystery to them. For example, we do not know certain technical details of the product such as the size of the battery or the speed of charging the case.
But a new specification of the brand’s active noise-canceling headphones has just been revealed to us through the Wireless Power Consortium, which is the body that certifies devices for the Qi wireless charging standard. We now know, thanks to them, that the Pixel Buds Pro case will be able to accommodate up to 2.5 W wireless charging, which corresponds to the speeds used on the second generation of Pixel Buds released in 2020.
A consistent position for Google
They thus come to be placed just between the Apple AirPods Pro and the Sony WF-1000XM4 which can support 1.7 W and 5 W of charge respectively. An offer in the current average of what is offered and which seems suitable, especially when you consider that the case of the headphones already offers a reserve of passive energy which allows them to be constantly recharged. Full recharging of the case occurring more rarely, this should not be a problem for end users. There is also the possibility, if you use them with a smartphone compatible with reverse wireless charging, to use the battery of your smartphone as a last resort. The alternatives therefore do not seem to be lacking on this side.
This certification also gives us the right to an overview of the case in question which seems in all respects similar to that used on the other models of Pixel Buds with its ovoid shape and its matte white texture. There are now still several steps to go through for the Pixel Buds Pro before they can find their place on our shelves. The headphones still have to go through several certification bodies before release, so we might learn more about their capabilities as we get closer to launch.
