The Pixel Watch 2 should fix Google’s biggest watch flaw


Good news, the Pixel Watch 2 may well be a lot more interesting than the first iteration, if a new leak is to be believed revealing which chip the watch will use this year.

Last year, Google presented its very first connected watch, the Pixel Watch, at the same time as its Pixel 7 and 7 Pro. Because of its high price and the use of a fairly old chip, the device hadn’t really managed to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 5 and 5 Pro.

However, that may well change this year. According to 9to5Googlethe Pixel Watch 2 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 Plus chip. The 4nm processor was announced last summer and promises to double the performance and deliver days of battery life. It will therefore replace the Exynos 9110 which was engraved in 10 nm.

The Pixel Watch 2 will benefit from improved autonomy

By using a Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 processor, the Pixel Watch 2 will have the best technology on the market. For the moment, only one watch uses the same chip: the TicWatch Pro 5. The classic Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 has been used on some Chinese watches, including the OPPO Watch 3.

We can therefore expect not only a much faster watch, that is to say a more fluid interface, but also an increased autonomy. According to official Google estimates, the Pixel Watch can last 24 hours on a charge with the Always-On Display, and more demanding use will drain it even faster.

The Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 should therefore allow the new generation to be more enduring, and probably to last several days between two charges. The OPPO Watch 3, for example, is advertised as being able to offer a battery life of up to 5 days.and even up to 14 days in “Lite Smart” mode.

The new chip could therefore correct the biggest flaw in Google’s watch. It remains to be seen if this will be the only change to which we will be entitled, or if the American giant will also take the opportunity to improve the design, in particular by reducing the black borders all around the screen.
