The Pixel Watch is here: Google is hunting Apple with Fitbit

Eight years after the presentation of the first Apple Watch, Google has finally “caught up”: The Google Pixel Watch, the internet giant’s first smartwatch, was presented at the Made By Google event. The internet giant’s first smartwatch is the second watch to launch with WearOS.

But where the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 offers an additional user interface with OneUI and also requires a Samsung account, the Pixel Watch gives you the pure WearOS experience for Android version 8 and higher.

Many functions for fitness and everyday life

The Pixel Watch is loaded with comprehensive health and fitness features. Your body data is not only measured with Google Fit, but also with the fitness software from Fitbit.

In addition to the standard pedometer and activity recording, it also includes health functions. Sleep tracking is also included, as is heart rhythm and heart rate measurement. The smartwatch is equipped with an all-day battery so that this is as seamless as possible.

Unfortunately, there is no precise information on how long the watch will last under everyday conditions. We will discuss that in a test. What is certain, however, is that the battery can be recharged quickly. You can expect 9 hours of use from 45 minutes of charging time.

Minimalist design

What is least surprising is the design. Because that has been an open secret for a few weeks now. The Pixel Watch is round and consists largely of (gorilla) glass and metal. On the right side, a rotary knob and a button are integrated into the frame.

Google has planned a wide range of bracelets for the watch. In addition to the silicone wristbands already shown in advance, others made of leather, textile and metal will also be available. It has not been clarified whether commercially available bracelets can also be used – for example via an adapter on the watch. The watch itself comes in three color versions: black, gold, and silver.

Price and availability:

The Pixel Watch is available for pre-order now. The watch will then be launched on October 13th. It will appear in two variants that differ only in connectivity. There will be no different sizes. The Bluetooth version is available for 379 euros, while the LTE version costs 429 euros.
