The plastic packaging of fruits and vegetables is over!

From this Saturday, January 1, 2022, plastic overwrapping will be banned for many everyday products in France, such as fruits and vegetables, due to the entry into force of the anti-waste law.

With a view to limiting waste and making packaging that is more respectful of the environment, the anti-waste law, which takes effect this Saturday, will make it possible to greatly remove unnecessary plastic packaging.

Many manufacturers, like the DS Smith company, have already taken this turn by integrating much more ecological processes into their production systems.

“At DS Smith, but we are also representative of the world of cardboard manufacturers in Europe, 97% of our packaging is recyclable. Our cardboard solutions are based on recycled fibers up to 86% on average ”, explained Armand Chaigne, director of industrial markets at DS Smith, on CNEWS.

Several fresh fruits and vegetables, sold in containers weighing less than 1.5 kg, can no longer be wrapped in plastic with this new anti-waste law.

In case of non-compliance with these rules, the fines can climb up to 15,000 euros.
