Officially mentioned for the very first time last January, the PlayStation VR2 is preparing to land in our living rooms. But we will have to be patient before having the opportunity to try it.

Unlike Microsoft and Nintendo, Sony is the only console manufacturer to clearly bet on virtual reality. The Japanese multinational is therefore evolving alongside the VR Meta Quest (formerly Oculus) and HTC Vive headsets. The first PlayStation VR launched in October 2016 had met with some success with its more than 5 million copies sold (latest figures dating from December 2019). So it makes sense to see a new model appear on the horizon.

Sony takes its time

This week, the Japanese firm confirms that its PlayStation VR2 will not be released in 2022. Indeed, the headset will not be launched until early 2023, without further details for the moment. Information that is not really surprising since the “rumor” had already been circulating for several weeks. This delay will allow Sony to announce new games, the catalog seeming for the moment a little thin.

The PlayStation VR2 will carry two OLED screens of 2000 x 2040 pixels each, for a refresh rate of 90/120 Hz. Integrated cameras will track our movements and a motor capable of generating vibrations will also be present. Now we only have to know the price of this peripheral intended for the PS5.
