This game, very strongly inspired by Pokémon, breaks all records! Palworld revealed their sales and player stats to us and it’s absolutely impressive.
In early access since January 19, 2024, Palworld has managed to attract the attention of millions of players in a very short time. In the action adventure software, we evolve in an open world where creatures similar to Pokémon exist. They are called Pals and are nevertheless sometimes much less friendly than a Piplup or a Pikachu when they pull out a machine gun! Indeed, the particularity of Palworld is to be completely offbeat and it is surely this proposition which has caused such enthusiasm. The game is developed by Pocketpair, a studio that has remained in the shadows until now with games like Craftopia. The latter experienced a player peak of 27,000 players upon its release, almost 80 times less than that of Palworld…
Historic player peaks for Steam
Indeed, according to SteamDB, on January 27, Palworld experienced a peak of 2,101,867 simultaneous players, which is titanic. It thus became the second biggest record on Steam. Even more, recently the game’s X account (formerly Twitter) revealed that the total number of players had exceeded 25 million! For this calculation the studio simply added the number of copies sold on the Valve platform (15 million) to the number of players on Xbox, counting those who have access to the game via Xbox Game Pass. It’s absolutely colossal! And although the number of players has dropped considerably in recent weeks, Palworld is now playing in the big leagues and could well become a staple of the genre.
What’s next for Palworld?
For the moment, Pocketpair’s priority is to correct the numerous bugs that occur in the game. The studio also mentioned the fight against cheaters. To do this, players will soon be identified via a list specific to each server. As a result, cheaters will be suspended once spotted. This first method is only a taste since Palworld will also offer an external solution to avoid cheating. It will not be mandatory for solo and cooperative games. Once these problems are resolved, we imagine that Pocketpair will focus on additional content and this has already been announced as free.
