the porting of this Xbox exclusive disappoints a lot

The PS5 recently received a new port of an old Xbox exclusive. But unlike Hi-Fi Rush, it’s a disappointment on a few technical points.

Microsoft has started porting Xbox exclusives to PS5, PS4 and Nintendo Switch like Hi-Fi Rush or Sea of Thieves. And so far, everything was going well since the portages were pretty neat. The piracy game is even better finished than on Xbox Series X|S, with a version closer to that on PC. But a bad student disrupts these promising beginnings for Xbox exclusives on PlayStation 5.

Grounded disappoints on PS5

After Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment, Microsoft ported Grounded to PS5. If you are not familiar with this title, it is a survival game in the style of Mom, I Shrunk the Kids where you play a young character in XXL settings. A software that is made to evolve over time and which has therefore just landed on PlayStation 5. A must-have? For the moment, it’s not really that according to the analysis published by Digital Foundry. For them, the PS5 version of Grounded suffers from fairly incomprehensible performance problems.

The Digital Foundry channel explains that the dynamic resolution of Grounded on PS5 is lower than that on Xbox Series And it’s all the more surprising since the framerate is not stable. There are regular drops at 50fps, while on Xbox Series X the 60fps holds up more. The introduction is very disappointing at this level since the quality is not only lower, but it also runs less well (between 45 and 60fps). Additionally, aliasing is more noticeable on PS5, which experiences greater flickering and noise.

When we look at other points, the PS5 is able to do better with shadows with higher quality and greater details. The problem is that this version of Grounded should at least be equal given that the power of the consoles is similar. And Sea of Thieves or Hi-Fi Rush have shown the way for successful ports.
