With twelve nominations, “The Power of the Dog” is in the Oscar race. Sam Elliott has nothing to gain from the film at all.

“The Power of the Dog” is the big favorite at this year’s Oscars with twelve nominations. Among other things, Jane Campion (67) can hope for the director’s Oscar and Benedict Cumberbatch (45) for an award for best leading actor. And the western drama has also been nominated for best film. However, the US actor Sam Elliott (77) does not like the Netflix production at all. In the podcast “WTF with Marc Maron” referred to Elliott the film, among other things, as a “piece of shit”.

“Where’s the western in this western?”

“You want to talk about this piece of shit?” Elliot explains when Marc Maron (58) talks about the film. When Macron asked if Elliot didn’t like the drama, the actor said, “Damn, no.” He also talks about the reasons for his dislike.

So to Elliott, all of the cowboys in the film look like members of the Chippendales show dance group. He talks about “homosexual references throughout the damn movie”. “Well, I think that’s what the film is about,” Maron interjects. Although Campion is a “brilliant director” and he likes her previous work, what does a woman from New Zealand know about the Wild West. And why did she shoot there and call the location Montana. Elliott asks, “Where’s the western in this western?”

In addition to Cumberbatch, Jesse Plemons (33) and Kirsten Dunst (39) can also be seen in “The Power of the Dog”. The Oscars will be awarded on March 27th.
