The Power Ranking of the LEC 2023 teams

Once again, the League of Legends transfer window in Europe was hectic and in particular because of the LEC. The European league animated the month of November with surprising transfers of which obviously Martin “Rekkles” Larsson returns to Fnatic. All these changes will help to reshuffle the cards in a league that is becoming more and more competitive, as evidenced by the fact that 2022 was the first year with two different champions since 2014.

Even if we see that several teams are, on paper, capable of winning the ultimate title, some stand out from the others. Now with three segments instead of two following the change in format, the teams will fight for an additional title during the year. Here is our Power Ranking of the LEC 2023 teams.

S+: G2 Esports

The most titled structure in Europe start a new year as favorites for the European title. If the year 2022 did not start very well unlike previous years, the structure has once again managed to win a European title. Except that the structure aims higher and made it known during this transfer window. G2 did not hesitate to let go Club legend Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski and his botlane to retrieve a very promising rookie from the jungle. To this are added one of the best western ADC and the best European support of the last four years.

With all these beautiful people, G2 Esports arrives with real assetsalthough doubts remain about the level of Martin “Yike” Sundelin in LEC, he who was still in Div.2 a year ago. But the presence in almost every position of the best European players bode well for G2, although Vitality and Fnatic showed us in 2022 that the roster on paper doesn’t mean everything.

S: Team Vitality – KOI – Excel

While the top of the standings promises to be tight, some uncertainty hangs over the best teams on paper. The biggest question is probably vitality with who his two asian prodigies, have real offensive forces. However, following a catastrophic 2022, we can expect the worst with the French structure. This is why it is a notch below G2. However, if the integration goes well for both and that they confirm the expectations around themit could finally be Vitality’s year in the LEC.

On the side of KOI, the structure did not have much to do in this transfer window but the loss of Andrei “Odoamne” Pascu could shake up the workforce more than expected, especially since Mathias “Szygenda” Jensen has a lot to prove. However, the rest of the workforce clearly remains among the strongest and in particular its botlane which has proven time and time again to be able to compete with the best in the world.

As for Excel, France obviously has a lot of hype since we find there Vincent “Vetheo” Berrie and Raphael “Targamas” Crabbe. However, in addition to being francophone figures, they are very good players and very promising. Surrounded by a figure like Odoamne, they must confirm all the hopes around them after a good year 2022. If they succeed, they may well achieve great things and be a formidable team in the LEC.

To: MAD Lions

If we had to sum up the year 2023 of MAD Lions in one expression, it would be “hit or miss“. With players like Zdravets “Hylissang” Iliev Galabov and Matyáš “Carzzy” Orság, we can expect anything. Both are known to be very unstable and capable of the best and the worst. In addition to these two recruits arrives Kim “Chasy” Dong-hyeon from NLC. To be seen if he will manage to integrate into the group but he had managed to achieve good things with X7 Esports at the Summer Split. All this mix of players is interesting but may have a little trouble titillate the best teams of the LEC.

B – Fnatic – Team Heretics – Team BDS

Here we find three structures with opposite transfer windows. Fnatic has decided to bet on continuity keeping three of its five members and adding Rekkleswho knows the house well, in addition to promote the support of his academy. The hard to explain loss ofElias “Upset” Lipp will weigh in the ranks of Fnatic because the German ADC was the true carry of the team while in recent years, Rekkles has distinguished himself more as an ADC who supports his team. To see how Fnatic will manage to perform with this change but we don’t necessarily expect them to be at the top of the rankings.

For newcomer Team Hereticsthe roster is promising even if we expected more from the structure. Jankos will bring all his experience to a fairly young team that will have to beat the odds for its first year in the LEC. Finally, Team BDS will be playing its second season and wants to do better than a catastrophic 2022. By promoting a good part of its academy, BDS is also banking on continuity and could surprise fans who are skeptical about this roster.

C: SK Gaming – Astralis

A new year in the LEC and once again Astralis presents a disappointing roster. While the structure did not go far from selling its place to the Karmine Corp., she will finally play, at least, another year. With a mid and botlane trio renewed for this year, Astralis has made the highly controversial choice to bring in Doğukan “113” Balcı as he comes out of a lackluster season with KCORP. In fact, by renewing his underperforming roster and not improving his team, Astralis should once again monopolize the last places.

On his side, SK Gaming, which we heard had intentions to invest seriously, hardly strengthened during this transfer window. The structure has certainly recovered Mark “Markoon” van Woensel at the beginning of the project but the rest was disappointing with recruitment of the LDLC OL botlane, who dominated in ERL, but who will discover the LEC and the high level. With a fairly young roster, SK is betting on development but could well pay the cost in the overall standings this year.
