PARIS (Reuters) – The French government is due to announce on July 20 the end of the mission of the Paris police chief, Didier Lallement, after more than three years in his post, Le Monde reported on Sunday.

The departure of the prefect of police, with military rigor and sometimes controversial remarks, has been considered “imminent” for several weeks and its date is likely to change, writes the newspaper, citing sources at the Ministry of the Interior and at the Paris police headquarters.

The failure of security management around the Stade de France during the Champions League final on May 28 delayed the end of Didier Lallement’s mission, so as not to give the impression that the executive is giving in “to feverishness”, adds Le Monde.

Didier Lallement reached the age limit last August of 65 in the prefectural corps, but his mandate was extended by two years thanks to a derogatory provision, the daily recalls.

The Interior Ministry and Paris Prefecture were not immediately available for comment.
