the presentation of the helmet should be late… but not its marketing

While the presentation of the mixed reality headset from Apple was expected for the spring, it seems that the firm does not finally intend to present it until the fall.

While we have so far expected a spring presentation of Apple’s first mixed reality headset, known as Apple Glass, it seems that the manufacturer is not yet ready to unveil its very first model. of the kind.

In a tweet published on Friday, February 24, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, generally very well informed about Apple’s projects, explains that Apple has fallen behind in the development of its mixed reality headset and that it will not be ready in time for the date originally set.

The prediction for the mass shipment schedule is unchanged, but the likelihood of Apple’s 1st-gen AR/MR headset release at the spring event is decreasing. Meanwhile, the probability of the headset launch alongside iPhone 15 in 3Q23 is rising. https://t.co/jqd0xtbBUs

Thus, according to the analyst at TF International Securities, “the likelihood of an announcement of Apple’s first AR/MR headset at the spring event is rather low“. Nevertheless, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, this delay on the announcement should not change the date of marketing of the helmet to the general public. It must be said that, according to him, Apple initially intended to offer its helmet only to developers before marketing to the general public later in the year, in the fall.

It would therefore now be more likely that Apple will present its headphones in good and due form on a single occasion, potentially during the third quarter, in the month of September or October, at the same time as its new iPhone 15 and 15 Pro, for a release before the end of the year holidays.

In a blog post published on Medium, Ming Chi Kuo goes a little further to explain the delay of Apple Glass. According to him, it would be due in part to software problems which would still not be resolved a few months before the initially planned launch.

A new generation of Apple Glass expected for 2025

In his Medium post, Ming-Chi Kuo goes a little further and is already counting on a second generation of mixed reality headset which would be expected for 2025. For this second generation, it would be two headsets which would be planned by Apple, with a model top of the range assembled by Luxcaseict – like the model expected this year – and a second helmet manufactured by Foxconn.

For Apple, the risk of postponing the announcement of its mixed reality headset presents the risk of seeing leaks multiply in the coming months. The manufacturer’s plan was indeed until now to unveil the Apple Glass well in advance of their marketing to pull the rug out from under all leakers. From now on, if the helmet is announced just before its marketing and after its entry into production, there is a much better chance that it will be the subject of numerous leaks even before being officially presented in good and due form.
