Approaching 2 euros, it can be 1.95 euros. This is when people tell us that they can no longer go to work. The last time, we implemented it when fuel reached 1.95 euros, which seems to me a reasonable threshold. Bruno Le Maire, Minister of the Economy and Finance, on BFMTV and RMC on December 14, 2023.
This principle, of a fuel allowance conditional on crossing a threshold, was confirmed following the entry into force of the finance law for 2024. Unlike last year, no platform was set up this stadium so that French people taking their car to go to work can claim this check for 100 euros.
As a reminder, the fuel allowance could be claimed from mid-January and payments started on January 27, 2023. To obtain it, all you had to do was provide your marital status, tax number, registration number, registration number. and a sworn commitment indicating the use of your vehicle for professional purposes. The aid was accessible – to simplify – to half of the poorest households.

In 2024, everything is in place, from a regulatory point of view, for a return of the fuel premium of 100 euros. And it could even concern a wider range of households: the 60% of households with the lowest incomes this time.
The government has plenty of time to activate the 2023 fuel bonus, or not, or publish an implementing decree… or leave the measure to the wayside. No precise threshold is included in the law. Bruno Le Maire, however, promised to activate it in the event of a flight: If tomorrow there is a crisis, oil prices explode and prices at the pump approach two euros, I will trigger the fuel compensation system -workers.
Approach 2 euros, or 1.95 euros per liter more precisely as Bruno Le Maire mentioned. If the SP98 exceeded 2 euros per liter at the end of September 2023, it has since fallen sharply… only to rise again throughout the month of January. SP98 gasoline now exceeds 1.90 euros on average according to Fig Data who compiled the data from the official site prix-carburants.gouv.fr. Insufficient, at this stage, to legitimize the fuel premium. But the trigger threshold is close.
