The first episode of the sitcom "The Prince of Bel-Air" aired 30 years ago. The stars of the series celebrated this together, as Will Smith shows.
The stars of the cult sitcom "The Prince of Bel-Air" (1990-1996) have come together to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the series' first broadcast. Will Smith (51) shows a picture of it on Instagram. The actors not only celebrated together, they also stood in front of the camera for a reunion special for HBO Max, which is due to air this fall.
The Instagram snapshot shows Smith and his co-stars Tatyana Ali (41), Karyn Parsons (53), Joseph Marcell (72), Daphne Maxwell Reid (72) as well as Alfonso Ribeiro (48) and DJ Jazzy Jeff (55 ). Smith also recalled James Avery, who played Uncle Phil in the series. Avery died in 2013 at the age of 68.
Reconciled with Janet Hubert
In a second photo that Smith published, he can be seen with Janet Hubert, 64. She played Smith's serial aunt on the show's first three seasons before being replaced by Daphne Reid in 1993. Allegedly, before Hubert left on the set, there was an argument with Smith. Nothing of this can be seen on Instagram, the two stars seem to be talking to each other in a good mood.
The reunion was developed by the production company Westbrook Studios by Will and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith (48). The same company is also planning a remake of the 90s sitcom – but not as a comedy. The reboot is supposed to be turned into serious drama. Whether Will Smith himself will play in the drama version of "The Prince of Bel-Air" has not yet been confirmed or denied.
