The procedure for allocating fifteen TNT frequencies attracts at least four new candidates

If television is no longer what it used to be, it has not completely lost its power of attraction. Four media companies announced on Wednesday May 15 that they had submitted an application for a digital terrestrial television (DTT) frequency.

Alain Weill’s L’Express group, the Ouest-France group, Daniel Kretinsky’s CMI group and the former radical left Web-tv Le Media responded to the call launched by the Communication Regulatory Authority audiovisual and digital (Arcom), on February 28, with a view to reallocating fifteen broadcasting authorizations. Those currently held by C8, W9, TMC, TFX, NRJ12, LCI, Paris Première, Canal+, BFM-TV, CNews, CStar, Gulli, Canal+ Sport, Canal+ Cinéma and Planète+ expire between February 28 and 31 August 2025.

Others ” new entrants “ are likely to have also applied, without having yet revealed it. Arcom will only reveal the official list of applicants in a few days, when it will have examined all the files that reached it before May 15 at noon, and when the body of the body will have judged their admissibility.

The TF1 group confirms that it is applying for a new authorization for its channels (TMC, TFX and LCI), as does the M6 group, which wishes to continue its terrestrial broadcasts under the same conditions as today – in other words, Paris Première would continue its destiny of pay channel. “Our ambition is to apply for all of our pay and free DTT channels” (C8, CNews, CStar, Canal+ and its variations as well as Planète+) announced, on February 29, the chairman of the board of directors of the Canal+ group, Maxime Saada, during his hearing under oath at the commission of inquiry into the award, the content and control of these authorizations.

Take into account the pluralism of the offer and the public interest

Jean-Paul Baudecroux’s NRJ group also aspires to continue operating NRJ12, its generalist channel. As for BFM-TV, it benefits from two application files: that of its future ex-owner Altice Media (Patrick Drahi) and that of its next majority shareholder CMA Médias (Rodolphe Saadé), which will replace one for the other. other at the “closing” of the sale of the continuous news channel.

The auditions of all these candidates will take place in July, in order to select the lucky ones before the holidays. At the start of the school year, discussions will begin with a view to reaching new agreements – the obligations that the channels undertake to respect under penalty of sanctions – which must be adopted by the end of the year.
