If you use the services of Proton, good news ! The native Windows and macOS application is now available to anyone who pays for the service.
Encryption is just a click away. The Swiss company Proton, which offers a software suite competing with Google that is more respectful of privacy, has just announced that its ProtonMail application was now available for download to all Internet users who have subscribed to the service.
Proton native for (almost) everyone
Last December, Proton announced with great fanfare the arrival of a native application for Windows and macOS, but the latter was reserved for holders of a “Visionnary” subscription, an ephemeral formula costing more than ten euros. per month. From now on, the application can be used by anyone who has subscribed to a paid offer, whatever it may be.
Whether you are registered for the “Plus” plan at €3.99 per month or the “Unlimited” plan for €9.99, you can now benefit from a native app which offers access to your mailbox and your Proton Diary. Both versions of the software are available on the official Proton website, which also specifies that a Linux application should arrive “in early access in the coming weeks“.
On the program of improvements in this Beta version, easier access to the Proton calendar, notification badges and the possibility of making Proton the default email app for macOS. A similar option is coming for Windows very soon, assures the brand. Accessibility options have also been reviewed and improved.
Easier migration from Gmail
But where Proton wants to hit hard is by offering its EasySwitch migration tool (which allows you to repatriate all your information and contacts, events and emails from Gmail, Outlook and others) directly from the application. So, in just a few clicks, you can migrate your entire digital life to Proton, without ever having to leave the application.
The native app still uses the Electron framework however. This means that it mainly acts as a “capsule” of the web application and that your messages cannot be viewed offline. All the features of the website, such as advanced search, sending schedule or the Snooze function, are there, however.
And for those who still want to continue using a third-party client, the Proton Bridge application is still available.
