the PS5 designer back at the controls for the new console?

The PS6 is already being talked about and several people indicate that it is already in development. Mark Cerny, behind the architecture of the PS5, could still be in charge. For the moment, no concrete information, the exit of the machine not being envisaged before several years.

The PS5 was released a little over two years ago and Sony must – logically – already lay the foundations for the next iteration. If the arrival of the PS6 is still far away, several rumors evoke the bases of the project, and especially its designer.

Indeed, two often well-informed Twitter accounts, Worry Wart Gamer as well as PS6Countdown evoke the name of Mark Cerny at the head of the project. A true video game legend, Cerny once worked as lead designer of the PS5.

The PS6 should not arrive for several years

It makes sense that as soon as one console comes out, Sony starts working on the next one. Put Cerny back at the head of the project, it is to grant him absolute confidence. Absolute and deserved given the technical quality of the PS5. It introduced various cool things to the console world like ray-tracing support and reduced loading times thanks to SSD.

For now, it’s too early to expect anything from the PS6, the PS5 having at least another five years ahead of it. The machine has, moreover, struggled to settle on the market with the shortage of semiconductors. Early 2023 is synonymous with rebirth for Sony, which can finally offer its consoles without any shortage of stock. However, these concerns have not really penalized sales, since 30 million PS5s have been sold since 2020.

It is of course necessary to take these rumors with immense tweezers, nothing having officially filtered on the side of Sony. However the return of Mark Cerny sounds like logic. We’re not there yet, since the year 2023 already promises a lot with the recent arrival of PS VR2, important games like Final Fantasy 16 or Spider-Man 2 or perhaps the arrival of a second generation of PS5.
