Two years after its release, the PS5 has finally been jailbroken… for better or for worse.

The information was shared by Lance McDonald on Twitter and corroborated by a Sony Interactive Entertainment employee as authentic.

The PS5 system laid bare

While Sony’s new generation console was hacked via its PS2 emulator last month, the very system of the console has been updated or, as we say in the industry, jailbroken.

More specifically, it was version 4.03 of the system that paid the price. A hack for the moment minimal if Sony quickly deploys an update. But if hackers have already achieved this feat once, the PS5 is not immune to a total jailbreak in good and due form.

Potentially disastrous news for Sony, therefore. This can indeed place his precious console at the mercy of anyone who can replicate the maneuver.

Jailbreaking is a well-known phenomenon, especially on smartphones, and even more so on iPhones. In the past, other consoles have also been hacked in a relatively similar way. But what does this actually mean for the PS5?

Jailbreak and jailbreak money?

First of all, it is in principle possible to download on the console thus pirated almost any compatible game without purse, or even to modify them. Likewise, the console interface can be fully editable, with virtually no limit.

Truly limitless? Quite the contrary. This operation makes the warranty of the console completely void. Then, it is impossible to use the PlayStation Network, and therefore to connect to it to play multiplayer or chat with friends, at the risk of being banned there.

Finally, and this is even the most important element: jailbreaking the console is illegal because it is considered an act of piracy, and punished accordingly by law. If such manipulation of the PS5 system is detected, the penalty ranges from a heavy fine to even imprisonment.

And as this is not enough, the solution proposed to circumvent the system limitations of the console can be accompanied by viruses that can compromise the user’s data. A definitely double-edged operation, but which could be countered if Sony quickly finds a solution. To be continued.
