The PS5 reaches the milestone of 25 million consoles sold worldwide

Thanks to Sony’s financial results for the end of the fiscal second quarter, we’re treated to an update on the PS5 numbers. Even if the console is still difficult to access for many potential buyers, it continues its merry way in terms of sales.

Will Kratos be able to boost sales?

During the three months of this second fiscal quarter (and which ended on September 30, 2022), Sony announces that it has sold 3.3 million PlayStation 5s worldwide. In total, it is therefore 25 million consoles that have probably found takers around the world. The firm also specifies that this corresponds more or less to the score of last year during the same period.

For the end of this fiscal year (until March 31, 2023), Sony aims to sell 18 million machines knowing that for the moment, 5.7 million have already been sold. We imagine that the firm is counting, among other things, on the blockbuster God of War Ragnarok to boost sales at the end of the year and beyond.

Nothing impressive in the field of console sales even if it should be noted that stock limitations are struggling to meet demand. To give you an idea, the PS4 had sold 29.4 million units for the same time of existence. Among the other interesting figures communicated during these results, we note a drop in PlayStation Plus subscribers: 45.4 million subscribers this year compared to 47.2 million subscribers last year during the same period (a decrease of 1.8 million).

Not enough to bring out the champagne, but nothing alarmist for the moment on the side of Sony. There is nevertheless a 49% drop in profits that the company explains by increases in development costs, recent acquisitions such as the takeover of Bungie, and a strong dollar. It still seems that the rise in the price of the PS5 has allowed for an increase in revenue in the gaming division.
