The new PS5 Slim, announced by Sony on October 10, 2023, is now available in France, to the delight of fans. This reinvented version of the PlayStation 5 promises a new gaming experience with its more compact and lightweight design.

Compared to its predecessor, the PS5 Slim stands out for its reduced size and lighter weight, while maintaining the performance of the original PS5. Sizing is a crucial aspect of Sony’s reviews. The Slim model of the PS5 measures 35.8 x 21.6 x 9.6 cm, compared to the first model of the PS5 which measures 39 x 26 x 10.4 cm. This reduction in size is less noticeable than in previous generations of consoles. This nonetheless remains the most important point in terms of differences.
However, a notable improvement is also in the storage capacity, which goes from 825 GB to 1 TB, providing additional space for one or two more AAA games. Finally, the other main new feature of the PS5 Slim lies in its optical drive system. Unlike the standard model, the new PS5 is initially an entirely digital version, to which an external Blu-Ray player can be added. This allows buyers of the PS5 Slim Digital, offered at 449.99 euros, to have the flexibility to later add the player, sold separately at 119.99 euros, in the event of need or change of mind about their initial choice .
The console is finally available
Since this day, the PS5 Slim console has been officially available in stores. As noted, the digital model of the PS5 Slim is marketed at 449.99 euros, while the variant equipped with a disc drive is offered at 549.99 euros, corresponding to the initial price of the original PS5.
Although the Slim is a more compact version of the next-generation console, it has received criticism for its lack of significant design improvements. Players expected notable changes. Although smaller and lighter, it ultimately retains a very similar visual appearance to its predecessor, which disappointed many users. Not to mention the prohibitively expensive optional disc player.
