Also at Balmoral, her summer residence, Elizabeth II reappeared in a photo during the inauguration of the new British Prime Minister, Liz Truss. If she seems in good shape, her state of health, on the other hand, is still worrying.

For the first time in her reign, it was at Balmoral, and not at Buckingham Palace, that Elizabeth II invested her new Prime Minister. Currently on vacation in her summer residence, the Queen has chosen Scotland to meet Liz Truss, the curator who succeeds Boris Johnson at 10 Downing Street this Tuesday, September 6, 2022, after several months of campaigning against Rishi Sunak. On August 31, the royal palace announced that the monarch “could not travel to London to receive the outgoing and incoming Prime Ministers”, while his state of health has not been good for several months. If it was just a precaution to avoid “a last minute change”in case Elizabeth II had “suddenly persistent mobility problems”the photo of this event is not without concern.

On the picture, unveiled by Buckingham Palace, we see Elizabeth II wearing a plaid skirt and a cardigan, leaning on the cane which she no longer does without to shake hands with Liz Truss. “Her Majesty asked her to form a new administration. Mrs Truss accepted Her Majesty’s offer and was appointed Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury”, can we read in the caption of this very symbolic shot. Because if Liz Truss is the third woman in the history of the United Kingdom to become Prime Minister, after Margaret Thatcher and Teresa May, it is about the fifteenth Prime Minister that the Queen, who loves hamburgers, invests since the beginning of her reign, of which she recently celebrated the 70th anniversary.

Normally welcomed by a guard of honor, the Queen had chosen this time to celebrate this event in private. ‘The traditional welcome to Balmoral is normally cemented in the Queen’s calendar and something she really appreciates’, had specified a source of the palace, adding that this measure had been taken for the sake of the comfort of Elizabeth II. But some simply saw it as the “sign” that his health is no longer in good shape…
