The queens of the ring: what intensive training did the actresses follow for the needs of this film?

Released in cinemas in 2013, the movie called queens of the ringrealized by Jean-Marc Rudnicki, will be rebroadcast Sunday, June 5, 2022, from 9:05 p.m. on W9. Worn by Marilou Berry, Nathalie Baye, Audrey FleurotCorinne Masiero and André Dussollier, this feature film takes place in a city in the North of France. Played by Marilou Berry, Rose, 30, is hired as a cashier in a supermarket after her release from prison. But above all, she wishes to reconnect with her son Mickaël, whom she has not seen for a few years, and who rejects her. Discovering that the young boy is passionate about wrestling, she decides to set up a team with her work colleagues.

They are trained by Richard Coeur de Lion, a wrestling veteran performed by André Dussollier. In order to be credible in their roles as apprentice wrestlers, all the actresses in the film followed a intensive training ahead of filming, 10 hours a week for 3 months. They were thus all able to carry out the wrestling matches that we see on the screen.

Learning to fall, for example, was essential to avoid injury. Some doubles were however present for security reasons, but the director Jean-Marc Rudnicki has always favored the takes of the actresses. The filming was almost compromised when Marilou Berry injured her neck, 15 days before he started. For the anecdote, the actress had to face real professional wrestlers under the conditions of a normal match, which was not an easy task for her. “I no longer had the feeling of playing in a film, but of fighting a real wrestling match. I was up against two Mexican women who are real wrestling stars and it was great to face professionals, even if, the first time, I almost threw up because they pinned me to the ground and I found myself with 120 kg on me!“, revealed Marilou Berry.
