Corona tests twice a week, mask requirement and quarantine times: Liza Tzschirner on the shoot for "The Ranger – Paradise Home".

Actress Liza Tzschirner (33) is returning to the screen with two new films in the ARD series "Der Ranger – Paradies Heimat" (January 22nd and 29th, 8:15 pm on the first). The Heimatfilme with Tzschirner as behavioral biologist Emilia and Philipp Danne (35) as ranger Jonas Waldek can look forward to a loyal fan base.

The two new episodes were filmed from July 21 to September 16, 2020 in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, Saxon Switzerland – in the middle of the corona pandemic. In an interview with the news agency spot on news, the TV star reveals what that meant for the shooting and how hard the pandemic affects Tzschirner at work.

What was the biggest challenge for you while shooting?

Liza Tzschirner: First of all, I have to say that the production company ndF and the Sebnitzer Hof, where we were all housed, made every effort to make the shooting period as pleasant as possible for us, despite the extraordinary conditions. The employees in the production office were heroes! I found the lack of physical contact difficult. I am a very physical person and especially when you haven't seen each other for so long and then work so intensely with each other again, I find "touching" extremely important. Staying at the location in one go and not going home in between, which wasn't a must, but just common sense, was new and not easy.

How does the filming in Corona times differ compared to before?

Tzschirner: Of course, a lot is different, absolutely necessary, but different. Corona tests twice a week, mask compulsory, FFP2 for us actors because we have the closest contact with everyone else. Keep distances, no body contact. There were quarantine times before certain scenes, so that we could be tested and then play in isolation with physical contact, which was important for the dramaturgy of the films.

Last year you appeared again on "Sturm der Liebe". Can you imagine another comeback?

Tzschirner: A visit to "Sturm der Liebe" is always a nice experience, albeit a little different this year than usual. The series was my first job after drama school and I'm always happy when I can stop by privately or as Pauline. I can't imagine a longer comeback at the moment, as I'm lucky enough to be able to work in a very versatile and varied way and that wouldn't be possible with the obligations of a daily format.

The corona crisis is also particularly hard on the artist industry. How badly is the pandemic affecting you professionally?

Tzschirner: It's really a terribly difficult time for all artists. Especially in the stage and event area. My heart breaks with all the closed theaters and I hope so much that especially the small off-theater stages will make it through the crisis! When Covid is under control, I'm in every performance! As for me personally, I really can't complain. My position is insanely privileged. Last year I was able to do a lot of beautiful projects, all of which got through without a Corona case and I am extremely grateful for that.

In addition to acting, you also work in a café, do you miss work there?

Tzschirner: Very, before Christmas I was able to take on two shifts. The café may be open for take-away and packaged items – very reduced. I noticed again how much fun I am. I am very grateful for this great team and this beautiful place. Acting is always an unsafe profession, no matter how much you love it. And having a little security in your back is never wrong.

What did you do when you were not shooting, how do you pass the days in lockdown?

Tzschirner: Due to the nice situation of being able to shoot a lot last year, the right lockdown phase was actually kept within limits for me. I try not to fall victim to the drug Netflix too much, I go out with my dog a lot, I painted and moved around a lot, I messed up my apartment like Marie Kondo, talked to loved ones on the phone and tried to save the time to use productively.

The year has just started, what are your plans for 2021?

Tzschirner: If Covid is under control (hopefully still in 2021), I will hug all the people I love for a long, completely inappropriate time. Otherwise, I'm not that New Years resolution type. I keep making new plans, discarding them, thinking about something new – so I celebrate New Year's Eve ten times a year. But I always want to learn new skills and let my people know intensely that I love them. I think we all got that clearer last year.
