L’Etudiant revealed on Friday September 3 its annual ranking of the best French colleges, whether private or public. And it’s a public college that scores the best on the college exam.

The start of the school year took place on Thursday, September 2. More than 800,000 young adolescents have entered year 6 and have begun to discover a new world: college. In four years, unless there is an error or a change of course, they will all pass the certificate. This diploma is no longer essential to go to high school, but the exam success rate remains a guarantee of the quality of education and can reassure parents about the education of their children. This year, like the previous ones, The Student established a ranking of the best colleges using data provided by the Ministry of National Education for the period 2018-2020. Only one college collects the maximum score of 20 out of 20: the public college Les Loges in Saint-Germain-en-Laye in the Yvelines. All the students – they were 137 – who passed the certificate in this establishment between 2018-2020 had it and with a distinction. A hell of a performance knowing that the last months of the 2020 school year were disrupted by the coronavirus epidemic.

Of the top 20 colleges, 18 are private

Behind the Collège des Loges, there are two private establishments, which complete the podium. La Providence College in Strasbourg comes second with a score of 19.94 out of 20 and 99.4% of mentions among graduates. That of Notre-Dame in Miramas (in the Bouches-du-Rhône) finished third with 19.92 out of 20 and 99.19% of students graduating with honors.

Note that in the top 20, it is the private establishments which dominate since apart from Les Loges at the head and the international public college of Noisy-le-Grand in Seine-Saint-Denis, all the colleges are private.

Which department is doing the best?

In its classification, L’Etudiant also groups the data by department. The best in the rankings are Bretons: Morbihan, whose scores from the various colleges enabled them to reach an average of 17.6 out of 20, and Finistère, with its 17.5 out of 20.
