The Chinese manufacturer is back in force with two well-made devices. On the menu: quality photo sensors, vegan leather and… mid-range processors.

It’s been a while since we’ve really heard from Realme in France, the brand not having announced the release of its Realme C67 with much fanfare. And for good reason, it has concocted a new range of smartphones which will not fail to attract attention. Indeed, behind their sumptuous appearance, the Realme 12 Pro and Realme 12 Pro+ hide a robust technical sheet at an aggressive price.

To take great photos, you need a great camera

As we mentioned at the start of the year, Realme called on the cream of the crop to design its new smartphones. Namely Ollivier Savéo, artisan jeweler and Meilleur Ouvrier de France, who notably worked with Rolex. The final result is attractive, with a photo block on the two devices which evokes the Swiss watchmaker’s watches, all accompanied by a vegan leather covering which appears rather elegant. Before equipping their devices with a case, users will be able to take advantage of its “ 30% softer feel than their predecessors », which does not, however, come at the sacrifice of resistance to water and dust, since the IP65 protection index is required here.

No sacrifice in terms of photo performance either, far from it. The Realme 12 Pro has a 50-megapixel Sony IMX882 primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 32-megapixel telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. The Realme 12 Pro+, meanwhile, is equipped with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 main sensor and the same ultra-wide-angle as its little brother. But, also and above all, an Omnivision OV64B, a periscopic photo sensor that is normally found on high-end smartphones.

It is the latter which is in the spotlight, since it offers a x3 optical zoom, as well as a digital zoom which allows it to reach a total x6 zoom. The results presented by Realme are impressive, and the Chinese manufacturer does not hesitate to put its device in competition with the iPhone 15 Pro Max or the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. It is in terms of portraits that the Realme 12 Pro+ is most remarkable, with convincing bokeh (blur of the background or objects placed in the background).

Nothing to report under the hood

The rest of the components of the two smartphones are less impressive. On the processor side, we are entitled to a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 for the 12 Pro+, and a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 for the 12 Pro. These mid-range oriented chips are both accompanied by 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, at least. The resemblance between the two devices continues on the screen side, since they are equipped with a 6.7-inch side-curved OLED panel with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, a maximum brightness of 950 nits, Full HD+ resolution, and 100% DCI-P3 coverage.

To be able to take advantage of all this, Realme installed its UI 5.0 on its newcomers, namely Android 14, and opted for a 5,000 mAh battery. Of course, as with Oppo and OnePlus smartphones, we are entitled to 67 watts SUPERVOOC charging, so as not to disorient regulars.

The Realme 12 Pro is already available, on Amazon only, for the modest sum of 399.99 euros in its Navigator Beige and Submarine Blue versions. The Realme 12 Pro+, meanwhile, is priced at 499.99 in its smallest configuration, both in beige and blue.
