“The rebellious are dangers for the Republic”: in the face of the riots, Eric Ciotti denounces the discourse of the far left

While riots break out throughout France since the death of Nahel, a teenager killed by a policeman in Nanterre, public debate ignites on all sides. For the president of the Republicans, Éric Ciotti, the left and more precisely the movement of Jean-Luc Mélenchon is the spoilsport. He advances at the microphone of the Grand Rendez-vous d’Europe 1 / CNews / Les Echos that the party of France Insoumise would even be a danger for the republic.

“He is someone who represents a danger to the Republic”

The leader of the far left, Jean-Luc Mélenchon calls for calm and not to attack gymnasiums or to attack libraries. For the rest, it is not necessarily precise. This attitude annoys Eric Ciotti. According to him, this act is a call to be able to freely attack buildings, including police stations and town halls, since it was not on Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s list.

“Mr. Mélenchon is a danger to the Republic and is a factionalist. The rebellious are dangers to the Republic,” he insists firmly. In the eyes of the leader of the LR, Jean-Luc Mélenchon is not in a republican arc. “He is someone who represents a danger to the Republic,” he adds. Same refrain on the side of the Greens with Sandrine Rousseau. For him, it is inconceivable that the deputy could justify the riots or the looting by evoking the social excuse. “It’s class contempt, unbearably arrogant,” said the president of the Republicans.

Éric Ciotti calls for judicial responses to these behaviors. “When we call for a riot, when we target the police, these speeches have consequences,” exclaims the elected official. According to him, the aggressions towards the forces of order are partly the conclusions of the speeches of the left. “Magistrates will have to appreciate those who lit the fuses of all this, including Jean-Luc Mélenchon”, punctuates Éric Ciotti.
